Dot Dot Dot: SHU Graphics Degree Show

Degree show exhibition, staged at the end of final year Graphic Design at Sheffield Hallam. Project was undertaken as part of a collaborative group, with myself in a key role of leadership and direction. An incredibly fulfilling process, the exhibition was held in a Sheffield warehouse and featured large scale prints of each student’s work suspended from custom designed scaffolding frames.

The ‘Dot Dot Dot’ branding used ellipsis to represent the open ended junction at the end of a design degree, but also embodied the versatility of simple shapes and the endless possibilities within them. To highlight this, circular stickers were included in the event program and visitors were encouraged to create their own works on the front cover or on a wall during the event.

In The World: SHU Graphics

In The World was an exploratory, experimental exhibition developed mid way through our final year. It aimed to collect project work from across the cohort, finished and developmental, and present them in a new form and with a new perspective that may make people reconsider their work and its place within a larger moment.

For the work to take on a genuinely new dimension, we concluded that it needed to be part of a transformative process that would allow it to evolve alongside other work. We developed a ‘kaleidoscope’ concept that used coloured plates to combine and layer different sets of images. These plates were then projected into the studio space and gradually rotated in place throughout the exhibition. The layers of projections slowly produce unique presentations and combinations of the various works, and in doing so creates a series of completely new pieces along the way.
